Asbestos - The Killer Fibre
Are you managing the risks in your building?

Asbestos is the biggest single industrial killer we know in the UK today and, most worrying of all, it is in buildings around us. The HSE has estimated that the number of annual deaths from asbestos related diseases will rise to 10,000 by 2025 - compared to around 3,000 in 1996.

Asbestos related diseases, which can take between 15 and 40 years to develop, include asbestosis or fibrosis (scarring) of the lungs, lung cancer and Mesothelioma. There is no cure for asbestos related diseases . Amongst those at greatest risk of exposure to respirable asbestos fibres are carpenters, joiners, electricians, shopfitters, plumbers, IT cable installers and demolition workers.

How do I choose the right laboratory?

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) is the sole accreditation body recognised by the government to assess against internationally recognised standards. Use a UKAS accredited laboratory and you minimise the risk. It's one less thing to worry about.
